State of the Regions Report 2025: Benchmarking the Future of Australia's Regions
The 2025 edition of the State of the Regions (SOR) report, which is based on NIEIR’s annual modelling of the Australian economy, describes and compares the economic circumstances for Australia’s 67 SOR regions, the 5 largest Metro regions and the 7 SOR region types of Metro Centre, Metro Inner, Metro Outer, Metro Periphery, Country Diverse, Country Rural and Remote and provides data for the States and Territories and Northern Australia as a bespoke region.
This year’s report introduces two new sections within the SOR region descriptions, NIEIR’s Energy and Emissions Profile and Leading Indicators. This analysis, sourced from NIEIR’s comprehensive Local Energy and Emissions Profile (LEEP) and Leading Indicator reports, which are available for each Local Government Area (LGA) in Australia.
